Male Fertility Test Singapore

Understand your reproductive health with accurate, discreet testing

Male fertility issues contribute to about 50% of infertility cases in couples. If you're planning to start a family, or simply want clarity about your reproductive health, a male fertility test is a simple and effective first step.

At Regis Medical, we offer comprehensive sperm analysis and hormone testing to help assess your fertility status and guide next steps, all in a discreet, comfortable setting.

What Does a Male Fertility Test Check?

Our male fertility screening typically includes:

1. Semen Analysis (Sperm Test)

This is the cornerstone of male fertility testing and evaluates:

  • Sperm count: Total number of sperm per millilitre
  • Motility: Percentage of sperm that move properly
  • Morphology: Percentage of sperm with a normal shape
  • Volume & pH: Overall semen health
  • Vitality: How many sperm are alive

Samples are collected at our partner labs

2. Hormonal Blood Test

Hormones regulate sperm production and sexual function. We may test:

  • Testosterone (Total and Free)
  • FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone)
  • LH (Luteinising Hormone)
  • Prolactin (in some cases)

These help uncover potential hormonal imbalances affecting male fertility.

3. Pelvis Ultrasound (Scrotal/Testicular Ultrasound)

A non-invasive scan to check for:

  • Varicoceles (enlarged veins in the scrotum)
  • Testicular masses or cysts
  • Blockages or abnormalities affecting sperm flow

This scan helps detect structural causes of infertility that semen tests alone may miss.

4. Thalassaemia

Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder that can affect your future children if both partners are carriers.

5. Vitamin & Mineral Deficiency

Nutrient deficiencies (e.g. Vitamin D, B12, zinc) can affect testosterone levels, sperm quality, and energy levels. We will test for:

  • Zinc
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin B12
  • Folate
  • Iron (ferritin)

Who Should Get Tested?

You may benefit from a male fertility test if:

  • You’ve been trying (regular unprotected sexual intercourse) for 12 months without success
  • You have known reproductive or hormonal concerns
  • You have a history of testicular injury, infections, or surgery
  • You plan to conceive or freeze sperm for future use
  • You want a thorough fertility and health screening before family planning

How to prepare for your tests

  • Abstain from ejaculation for 3–5 days before semen test
  • Fasting may be required for certain blood tests
  • Avoid alcohol, smoking, and saunas for a few days before testing

We’ll send you detailed prep instructions beforehand.

General

Why is male fertility testing important?
Up to 40–50% of fertility issues in couples are related to male factors. Testing helps identify:
  • Low sperm count or motility
  • Abnormal sperm shape
  • Infections or inflammation
  • Hormonal or genetic causes of infertility
Early diagnosis can lead to better outcomes and informed next steps.
How do I prepare for a semen analysis?
To ensure accurate results:
  • Abstain from ejaculation for 2–5 days before the test
  • Avoid alcohol, smoking, and intense heat exposure (e.g. saunas, hot baths)
  • Stop any testosterone or steroid use (if applicable)
  • Discuss any medications or supplements with our doctor
How is the semen sample collected?
You’ll provide a semen sample by masturbation into a sterile container. This is usually done off-site at our partner labs.
What are normal sperm values?
According to WHO guidelines, normal semen parameters include:
  • Sperm count: ≥15 million/mL
  • Motility: ≥40% moving sperm
  • Morphology: ≥4% normal shape
  • Volume: 1.5–6 mL per ejaculation
Our doctor will explain what your results mean in context.
What if my results are abnormal?
One abnormal result doesn’t mean infertility. Many factors (stress, illness, temporary exposure) can affect sperm quality. Our doctor may:
  • Recommend a repeat test in 2–3 weeks
  • Order hormone or imaging tests
  • Suggest lifestyle changes or refer you to a fertility specialist
Can poor lifestyle affect my fertility?
Yes. Factors that negatively impact sperm health include:
  • Smoking, alcohol, or drug use
  • Stress and poor sleep
  • Obesity
  • Exposure to toxins, radiation, or high heat
  • Use of testosterone or anabolic steroids
Can supplements help improve sperm quality?
Certain supplements may support sperm health, such as:
  • Zinc
  • Selenium
  • Vitamin C & E
  • L-carnitine
  • Coenzyme Q10
Always consult our doctor before starting any fertility supplements.
Can fertility be improved with treatment?
Yes, depending on the cause. Options include:
  • Lifestyle modifications
  • Medical treatment (e.g. hormone therapy)
  • Surgery (e.g. varicocele repair)
  • Assisted reproduction (IUI, IVF, ICSI) if needed
How long does it take to get results?
  • Semen analysis: 3-5 working days
  • Hormonal or genetic tests: 5-7 working days
Is the test confidential?
Yes, absolutely. All test results and consultations are strictly confidential.
