What Is Typhoid Vaccine?
The Typhoid Vaccine helps prevent typhoid fever, a serious infection caused by the bacterium Salmonella typhi. It is commonly spread through contaminated food or water, especially in regions with poor sanitation.
Vaccination is the most effective way to protect yourself against typhoid—especially if you're travelling to high-risk areas in Asia, Africa, or South America.
At Regis Medical, we offer doctor-guided typhoid vaccination with convenient appointments and travel health advice tailored to your itinerary.

General Enquiry
Typhoid fever is a serious infection caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhi, usually spread through contaminated food or water. It can cause prolonged fever, abdominal pain, headache, and in severe cases, complications like intestinal bleeding.
Certain countries have a higher risk of typhoid due to sanitation and water quality. Getting vaccinated protects you against infection during travel, especially if visiting rural areas or places with limited clean water.
Risk is higher in parts of Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines), Africa, Central and South America, and some areas of the Middle East.
Typhim Vi® Typhoid vaccine. Injectable vaccine – single injection, with protection up to 3 years.
Ideally, at least 2 weeks before travel to allow your body to develop protection.
Yes. If you continue to travel to high-risk areas, a booster is recommended. Every 3 years for the injectable vaccine.
Yes. The vaccines are generally well-tolerated. Millions have been vaccinated worldwide.
If you’ve ever had a serious allergic reaction (like anaphylaxis) to a typhoid vaccine or to phenol (a component of this vaccine), you should not take it. Mild reactions like redness, swelling, or a low-grade fever are normal and not an allergy.
The injectable vaccine is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
No. It reduces your risk significantly, but you still need to practice safe food and water habits. Always drink bottled or boiled water, eat food that is thoroughly cooked and still hot, and avoid raw salads in high-risk areas.
Yes. It is often given together with vaccines like hepatitis A, hepatitis B, yellow fever, or tetanus, depending on your travel itinerary.
Yes. Past infection does not guarantee lifelong immunity. Vaccination is still advised.
Yes. There are no known interactions between Typhim Vi® and common medications. It’s safe to take if you’re on: Antibiotics, Antimalarial tablets (like doxycycline, Malarone, mefloquine), Chronic medications for blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, or thyroid issues, Birth control pills or hormone therapy.
The only concern is if you’re on strong immune-suppressing treatments (like high-dose steroids, chemotherapy, or certain biologics). These won’t cause a harmful interaction, but they might reduce how well your body responds to the vaccine.
