Why Singaporeans Love Visiting Bali

Travel smart China with vaccine advice, essential tests, and health tips from Regis Medical Singapore GP Doctors.

Bali is one of the top travel destinations for Singaporeans — offering a short flight, stunning beaches, luxurious villas, and vibrant food and wellness scenes. According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism, over 580,000 Singapore residents visited Indonesia in 2023, with Bali being the most popular region.

Whether you're heading for a honeymoon, a wellness retreat, or a quick beach holiday, Bali is affordable, visa-free (up to 30 days), and endlessly photogenic.

Best time to go: May–September (dry season, best for beaches and outdoor trips), October–April (green season, fewer crowds, lush scenery)

  • Ubud (culture & wellness), Seminyak (shopping & nightlife), Canggu (surf & cafés), Uluwatu (cliffside views), Nusa Islands (day trips)
  • Yoga retreats, surf trips, café-hopping, beach days, family villas, cultural getaways

Vaccines to Consider Before Going to Bali

Recommended Vaccines for Bali:

  • Influenza – Especially if travelling during winter months or using public transport in major cities
  • Hepatitis A – Strongly recommended due to food and water hygiene variability
  • Hepatitis B – For longer stays and spa treatments.
  • Typhoid – Advised if eating from street vendors or rural areas
  • Japanese Encephalitis – For long rural stays or frequent mosquito exposure
  • Rabies – Important if you plan to hike, stay in rural areas, or may come into contact with monkeys or stray dogs

Pre-Travel Health Screening & Advice

Who should screen?

  • Have a chronic condition (e.g. diabetes, asthma, heart disease)
  • Are above 60 years old
  • Are travelling with young children
  • Plan to do adventure sports or rural travel
  • Have a weakened immune system

Suggested tests:

  • Hepatitis A/B immunity check
  • General health review if staying long-term or doing outdoor activities
  • Glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure monitoring (especially for older travellers)

Pack These: Emergency Medications & Health Kit

Bring these essentials for your Bali trip:

  • Flu medicine or lozenges
  • Plasters and antiseptic cream
  • Eye drops and moisturiser lotion (dry air)
  • Anti-diarrhoea meds (street food may cause GI upset)
  • Motion sickness tablets
  • UTI medication
  • Antihistamines (for bug bites and allergies)
  • Fever meds and lozenges
  • Mosquito repellent (dengue & other mosquito-borne illnesses present)
  • Sunscreen & after-sun lotion (Bali’s sun is strong!)
  • Paracetamol and flu medication
  • Hand sanitiser & wet wipes

While You’re There: Protecting Your Health

Do not drink tap water – only drink bottled or filtered. If possible, use bottled or filtered water to brush your teeth as well.

Avoid ice cubes in drinks at small stalls unless they use bottled ice

Be cautious with raw food, such as seafood and salads, especially at beach clubs and markets

Avoid swimming in unchlorinated pools or rivers

Keep insect repellent on, especially in the evenings

Watch for monkeys in Ubud – they may bite or steal belongings

Always wear helmets on scooters – accidents are common

If visiting temples or jungle areas, wear closed shoes

After You Return: Post-Travel Watchlist

Be alert for:

  • Fever, fatigue, or stomach upset within 7–10 days of return
  • If symptoms occur, consult a GP — particularly if you had street food often or you visited rural areas.
  • Mosquito-related illnesses (dengue, chikungunya) if you feel unwell

At Regis Medical, we offer rapid tests for flu, and gastrointestinal infections at our clinic.
