What Is the AgeQ Biological Age Test?

AgeQ is a clinically validated blood test developed by Lucence, a Singapore-based health company, in collaboration with researchers from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).

It analyses seven routine blood biomarkers alongside your age and gender to calculate your biological age. This score reflects how your body is performing relative to your chronological age, based on data from more than 300,000 individuals across the Singapore Longitudinal Ageing Study (SLAS), the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), and the UK Biobank.

Unlike many biological age tests developed overseas using predominantly Western population data, AgeQ was built on an Asian cohort first. This matters because reference ranges, metabolic profiles, and disease risk patterns differ between populations. A test calibrated on Singaporean data is more meaningful for Singaporean patients.

What Does AgeQ Measure?

AgeQ does not diagnose a specific disease. It provides a composite picture of how your body is ageing across five domains:

  • Nutritional Balance - How effectively your body is utilising dietary nutrients. Deficiencies or imbalances here can accelerate cellular ageing and impair recovery.
  • Energy and Vitality - A reflection of your metabolic fitness, physical stamina, and how efficiently your body produces and uses energy.
  • Stress Resilience - Your body's capacity to manage everyday physiological and environmental stressors. Chronic stress accelerates biological ageing at the cellular level.
  • Hydration and Recovery - How well your body maintains internal fluid balance and recovers from daily wear. This domain is closely tied to kidney function and electrolyte regulation.
  • Repair and Renewal - Your body's capacity for internal maintenance, tissue repair, cellular turnover, and the processes that keep organs functioning well over time.

Each domain is scored individually and contributes to your overall AgeQ score. This means you do not just get a single number - you get a breakdown of where your body is performing well and where it may need attention.

Who Is This Test For?

AgeQ is suitable for adults who want a clearer picture of how their body is ageing, beyond what a standard health screening report tells them.

A typical health screening checks individual markers, cholesterol, blood glucose, liver enzymes, kidney function, against reference ranges. Each result is flagged as normal or abnormal in isolation. AgeQ takes these same markers and analyses them collectively, producing a single, integrated measure of biological ageing that connects the dots between results that might individually look fine but together tell a different story.

It is particularly relevant if you are in your 30s or 40s and want a baseline biological age before symptoms or chronic conditions develop, if you are already managing conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol and want to see how your overall ageing trajectory is tracking, if you have made significant lifestyle changes, diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, and want an objective measure of whether they are making a difference, or if you are approaching your 50s or 60s and want to understand your body's functional age as part of a preventive health strategy.

AgeQ is not a replacement for a health screening. It is an additional layer of insight that makes your existing screening results more actionable.

How the Test Works

AgeQ uses routine blood biomarkers, the same markers already included in most standard health screening panels. No special sample, no separate blood draw, and no additional preparation beyond what your screening already requires.

  1. Step 1 - Book a health screening or blood test appointment at our Holland Village or Katong clinic. Let us know you would like AgeQ added to your panel.
  2. Step 2 - Your blood is drawn as part of your normal screening visit. The relevant biomarkers are analysed through the AgeQ algorithm developed by Lucence and NUS.
  3. Step 3 - Your personalised AgeQ report is delivered within 4 to 6 days. It includes your overall biological age score, individual domain scores, and a personalised action plan based on your results.
  4. Step 4 - Our Doctor reviews your AgeQ results alongside your full screening report during your follow-up consultation. Rather than looking at biological age in isolation, your doctor interprets it in the context of your complete health picture, existing conditions, family history, medications, and lifestyle, then recommends specific, evidence-based next steps.

What Makes AgeQ Different from Other Biological Age Tests

There are several biological age tests on the market, including epigenetic (DNA methylation) clocks, telomere length tests, and various algorithm-based models. AgeQ is distinct in a few important ways.

  • Built on Asian population data - Most biological age models are trained on Western cohorts. AgeQ was developed using the Singapore Longitudinal Ageing Study, a dataset of Singaporean residents tracked over time and validated against two large international cohorts (NHANES and UK Biobank). For patients in Singapore, this means more relevant reference ranges and more meaningful results.
  • Uses routine blood markers - AgeQ does not require specialised tests, saliva samples, or DNA extraction. It works with standard blood biomarkers that are already part of most health screening panels. This makes it practical, affordable, and easy to repeat over time.
  • Clinically developed, not commercially derived - AgeQ was developed by specialist physicians and researchers from NUS, A*STAR, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Lucence. The underlying model was published in a peer-reviewed research paper and validated against mortality outcomes, meaning higher AgeQ scores are statistically associated with higher health risk, not just a number on a report.
  • Actionable, not abstract - Each AgeQ report includes domain-specific insights and a personalised action plan. When reviewed by your doctor in context, these insights translate directly into concrete changes, dietary adjustments, exercise modifications, targeted supplementation, or closer monitoring of specific organ systems.

How AgeQ Fits Into Your Health Screening

At Regis Medical, we view AgeQ as a complement to, not a replacement for structured health screening. Your health screening identifies specific conditions and risk factors. AgeQ tells you how those factors are collectively affecting the rate at which your body is ageing.

For example, a patient whose screening shows mildly elevated cholesterol, borderline fasting glucose, and slightly reduced kidney function might receive three separate "watch and monitor" recommendations. AgeQ can show that these borderline results, taken together, are producing a biological age significantly higher than expected, adding urgency to lifestyle intervention that the individual results alone might not convey.

AgeQ is available as an add-on to any of our health screening packages, including our general health screening, men's and women's health screening, senior health screening, and corporate screening programmes. It can also be ordered as a standalone test if you have recent blood work from another provider that includes the required biomarkers.

For patients who want to track their biological age over time, we recommend repeating the test annually or after a sustained period of lifestyle change (typically 6 to 12 months) to measure progress objectively.

A Clinical Approach to Longevity

Longevity is a word that has become heavily marketed. At Regis Medical, we approach it through a clinical lens — not as a trend, but as an extension of the preventive medicine we already practise.

Knowing your biological age is useful only if it leads to something concrete. A number without context is just a number. What matters is what your doctor does with it — connecting your biological age score to your blood work, your family history, your existing conditions, and your daily habits, then building a plan that is grounded in evidence rather than wellness marketing.

AgeQ gives us one more tool to do this well. It does not replace clinical judgement. It sharpens it.

About Lucence AgeQ™ Test

What blood markers does AgeQ use?

AgeQ analyses seven routine blood biomarkers that are commonly included in standard health screening panels. The specific biomarkers relate to metabolic function, nutrition, organ performance, and circulatory health. No specialised or additional tests are required beyond your normal blood draw.

Do I need a separate blood draw for AgeQ?

No. AgeQ can be run from the same blood sample collected during your health screening. There is no extra needle, no extra tube, and no special preparation beyond what your screening already requires.

How long does it take to get my results?

Your AgeQ report is typically delivered within 4 to 6 days after your blood draw.

What does the report include?

Your report includes your overall AgeQ score (your biological age), individual scores across five health domains (Nutritional Balance, Energy and Vitality, Stress Resilience, Hydration and Recovery, Repair and Renewal), and a personalised action plan with recommendations based on your results.

Can my biological age be improved?

Yes. Biological age is influenced by lifestyle factors including diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, and weight. Research from the studies underlying AgeQ shows that sustained lifestyle changes can reduce biological age over time. We recommend retesting after 6 to 12 months of targeted changes to measure progress.

Is AgeQ the same as a DNA or epigenetic age test?
No. Epigenetic age tests (such as Horvath or GrimAge clocks) measure DNA methylation patterns and require specialised lab processing. AgeQ uses routine blood biomarkers and a validated algorithm, it is simpler, more affordable, and can be repeated easily as part of regular health screening. Both approaches measure biological ageing, but through different methods.
Is AgeQ validated for Asian populations?
Yes. AgeQ was developed using the Singapore Longitudinal Ageing Study, making it one of the few biological age models built on Asian cohort data. It has also been validated against the US NHANES and UK Biobank datasets.
Can I take the test without doing a full health screening?
Yes. AgeQ can be ordered as a standalone blood test. However, the results are most valuable when interpreted alongside a complete health screening, as your doctor can connect your biological age score to your full clinical picture.
How often should I take the test?
Annually is a reasonable interval for most people. If you have made significant lifestyle changes or started a new treatment plan, retesting after 6 to 12 months can provide an objective measure of progress.
Is this test suitable for everyone?
AgeQ is designed for adults. It is most informative for individuals aged 30 and above, as biological age divergence from chronological age becomes more clinically relevant with time. It is not a diagnostic test and does not replace medical evaluation for specific symptoms or conditions.
