Chlamydia Test and Treatment Singapore

Fast, Discreet, and Doctor-Guided Chlamydia Screening
What Is Chlamydia?
Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) worldwide, including in Singapore. It is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis and is often asymptomatic, meaning many people carry and spread it without knowing.
The good news? Chlamydia is easily treatable with antibiotics, but early detection is key to preventing complications like infertility or pelvic inflammatory disease.
At Regis Medical, we offer private, fast, and reliable chlamydia testing for individuals and couples, with doctor consultation and follow-up included.
Why You Should Get Tested for Chlamydia?
Chlamydia can affect both men and women and may lead to serious long-term health issues if left untreated.
You should get tested if you:
- Are sexually active and under 30 (especially with new or multiple partners)
- Have had unprotected sex with a new partner
- Are experiencing genital symptoms (even if mild or intermittent)
- Are planning a pregnancy or undergoing fertility checks
- Have a partner who tested positive for chlamydia or another STI
- Simply want peace of mind after sexual exposure
Common Symptoms of Chlamydia
Most people experience no symptoms early on, but when present, they may include:
For women:
- Abnormal vaginal discharge
- Burning during urination
- Pain during sex
- Lower abdominal or pelvic pain
- Bleeding between periods or after sex
For men:
- Clear or cloudy penile discharge
- Burning sensation while urinating
- Testicular pain or swelling
- Discomfort around the anus (in rectal infections)
When Should I Test for Chlamydia?
- If you have symptoms: Seek consultation with a Doctor and get tested. Symptoms such as unusual discharge, burning on urination, pelvic pain, or testicular discomfort should be assessed by a Doctor promptly, though many people with chlamydia have no symptoms at all.
- If you had unprotected sex (no symptoms): The chlamydia PCR test is reliable from approximately 2-6 days after exposure. Testing too early may produce a false negative. If you tested negative before the 7-day mark, our Doctor may also recommend a repeat test at 2 weeks.
- For routine sexual health screening: If you are sexually active with new or multiple partners, regular screening every 3–6 months is recommended. Chlamydia is one of the most common STIs and is frequently asymptomatic, particularly in women, where it can silently cause pelvic inflammatory disease and affect fertility if untreated.
- After a known exposure: If a partner has tested positive for chlamydia, get tested as soon as possible regardless of symptoms. Our doctor will assess whether treatment should begin before your results are available.
How Chlamydia Testing Works
- Sample type: Urine test or swab (cervical, urethral, throat, or rectal depending on exposure)
- Accuracy: Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) – gold standard for STI diagnosis. With sensitivity over 95% and specificity over 98%
- Time required: 10–15 minutes in clinic
- Results: Typically within 3 - 5 working days
- Chlamydia testing is not done by itself and is co-tested with Gonorrhoea

How You’ll Receive Results
- Turnaround time: Results are usually ready within 3–5 working days, depending on the sample type (urine or swab).
- Secure delivery: Your results will be sent via WhatsApp or email once available. If follow-up is needed, our clinic will contact you to arrange a review session.
What the Results Mean
- Negative result: If no chlamydia infection is detected, no treatment is required. Our doctor may still discuss preventive sexual health practices and advise if repeat screening is recommended.
- Positive result: If chlamydia is detected, we will arrange a review session. Our doctor will explain your results and prescribe the appropriate antibiotic treatment to clear the infection.
Confidentiality
- Your chlamydia test results are kept strictly confidential.
Next Steps & Ongoing Care
- Treatment: A short course of antibiotics is usually effective. It is important to complete the treatment fully, even if symptoms improve quickly.
- Partner management: To prevent reinfection, your sexual partner(s) should also be tested and treated. Our clinic can guide you on partner notification and provide letters if required.
- Follow-up testing: In some cases, a repeat test may be recommended after treatment to confirm clearance of infection.
- Specialist referral: For complex cases (e.g., pelvic inflammatory disease, fertility complications, or recurrent infections), our doctor will refer you to a trusted gynaecologist, urologist, or infectious disease specialist.
- Prevention: Our doctor may also advise on safer sex practices, regular STD screening, and vaccinations (such as HPV and Hepatitis B) to protect your long-term health.
Chlamydia Treatment
If your test comes back positive, chlamydia is straightforwardly treatable with a course of antibiotics. Treatment is prescribed by our doctor and typically involves a single dose or a short 7-day course depending on the clinical situation.
It is essential to complete the full antibiotic course and avoid sexual contact until treatment is complete and both you and your partner(s) have been treated. Reinfection is common when partners are not simultaneously treated.
A follow-up test is sometimes recommended 3–4 weeks after treatment to confirm clearance, particularly for women at risk of pelvic inflammatory disease or those planning pregnancy.

Chlamydia Test Related
Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. It is often asymptomatic, meaning many people carry and spread it without realising. If left untreated, it can lead to complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and chronic pelvic pain. The infection is easily treated with antibiotics once detected.
Testing is important because most people with chlamydia do not show symptoms. Early diagnosis prevents long-term complications and stops transmission to partners. You should get tested if you:
- Are sexually active and under 30 years old
- Have new or multiple sexual partners
- Had unprotected sex with a new partner
- Have symptoms such as discharge, pain when urinating, or pelvic discomfort
- Are planning pregnancy or undergoing fertility checks
- Have a partner who tested positive for chlamydia or another STI
Most cases are silent, but when symptoms occur, they can differ between men and women:
- Women: Abnormal vaginal discharge, burning during urination, pain during sex, pelvic pain, or bleeding between periods.
- Men: Penile discharge, burning when urinating, testicular pain or swelling, or anal discomfort in rectal infections.
Testing is quick and discreet, usually taking 10–15 minutes in clinic. The test involves:
- Urine sample or swab (cervical, urethral, throat, or rectal depending on exposure)
- Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT), the gold standard for diagnosis
- Results within 3–7 working days
If positive, our doctor will prescribe antibiotics and provide partner notification guidance. All records are kept confidential.
Our Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea PCR test costs $200. Prices are listed in SGD and exclude GST, consultation, and administrative fees. The test is available as a standalone option or part of a full STI screening panel.
Yes, chlamydia is curable with antibiotics prescribed by our doctor. Treatment is simple and effective, but it is important that both you and your partner(s) are treated to prevent reinfection.
Yes, many patients choose to combine chlamydia testing with a broader STI panel. Additional tests include HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B & C, herpes simplex virus, and HPV for women. Our doctor will advise on the most appropriate tests based on your risk profile and recent exposures.
No special preparation is needed, but if providing a urine sample, avoid urinating for at least 1–2 hours before the test for best accuracy.
