Blood Tests
- HIV Ag/Ab (4th Generation) - Detects both HIV antigen and antibodies. Reliable from 28 days after exposure. This is the current standard of care for HIV screening.
- Syphilis (TP Antibody / RPR / VDRL) - Screens for current or past syphilis infection. Reliable from 3 to 6 weeks after exposure.
- Hepatitis B (HBsAg and HBsAb) — Checks for active hepatitis B infection and immunity status. Reliable from 4 to 6 weeks after exposure.
- Hepatitis A (Total Antibody) - Screens for hepatitis A exposure or past infection.
- Hepatitis C (Anti-HCV) - Screens for hepatitis C exposure. Reliable from 8 to 12 weeks after exposure.
Urine and Swab Tests (PCR)
- Chlamydia trachomatis PCR - The most common bacterial STI in Singapore. Often completely asymptomatic, especially in women. Detectable from about 2 weeks after exposure.
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae PCR - Screens for gonorrhoea. Detectable from about 2 weeks after exposure. PCR testing can be performed from multiple anatomical sites, urethral, vaginal, pharyngeal (throat), or rectal - depending on your sexual history. This matters because pharyngeal and rectal gonorrhoea and chlamydia are frequently asymptomatic. A patient who tests only at one site may carry an undetected infection at another. Our doctor will advise on the appropriate number of sites to test based on your history.
Women's Screening
- PAP Smear - Screens for abnormal cervical cells. Recommended every 3 years for women aged 25 to 65.
- HPV DNA Test - Detects high-risk HPV strains linked to cervical cancer. Can be combined with a PAP smear or done as a standalone screen. Also available as a self-collection swab.
- Triple Vaginal Swab - Tests for Gardnerella (bacterial vaginosis), Candida (yeast infection), and Trichomonas. These are not always sexually transmitted but are commonly included in a women's sexual health screen.

STD Symptoms
Men: Abnormal discharge from the penis or anus, pain or discomfort when urinating, pain during sexual intercourse, the development of rashes either localised or generalised on your body, or the appearance of growths or ulcers around the penis or anus. Itchiness in the penile or anal area can also be a cause for concern.
Women: Unusual vaginal discharge (change in colour, consistency or odour), pain or discomfort when urinating, pain during sexual intercourse, a rash either localised or generalised on the body, growths or ulcers around the vagina or anus, unusual vaginal bleeding between periods, and pelvic or lower abdominal pain. Itchiness or irritation in the vaginal or anal area can also be a sign of infection.

Who should get STD tests
Regular STD testing offers peace of mind for individuals who are sexually active, particularly those with multiple partners. It's recommended to undergo testing annually if sexually active or whenever engaging with a new partner. If you are taking HIV PrEP, whether prescribed in Singapore, purchased online, or obtained from a clinic overseas, you need structured monitoring that goes beyond a standard STD screen.
PrEP requires quarterly HIV testing to confirm you are still HIV-negative, regular STI screening (PrEP prevents HIV but not other infections), and kidney function monitoring because the medication can affect renal health over time.
A standard STD test does not cover kidney function, liver function, or the metabolic markers that PrEP users need tracked. How to prepare for STD testing at Regis Medical
For urine tests, please hold your urine for at least 2 hours before your tests. Let our staff know to pass you a urine bottle on arrival to the clinic in case you need to use the toilet urgently upon arrival.
For ladies, it is not advisable to do STD testing during a menstrual period. Avoid using vaginal creams, medicines, foams, tampons and lubricants, before seeing our Doctor.
You will receive your STD test results via email (password protected). However, for review of STD test results, Regis medical suggests that most patients review in person for the results.
After Your STD Test
Once your STD test is completed, here is what you can expect:
How You’ll Receive Results
- Fast turnaround: Most results are ready within 3–7 working days, depending on the type of test performed.
- Convenient delivery: Results will be sent securely (with password protection) via email or WhatsApp—whichever you prefer. This ensures you don’t need to make an extra trip unless necessary.
What the Results Mean
- Normal / Negative results: If your results indicate that everything is normal or negative, you will usually not need a follow-up consultation. You may simply continue your regular health checks or repeat testing as recommended.
- Abnormal / Positive results: If your results suggest an infection or any concern, our clinic will arrange a review. During this session, our doctor will explain your results in detail, discuss treatment options, and address any questions you may have.
Confidentiality
- We understand STD testing is sensitive. While we are not an anonymous HIV test clinic, your results are kept strictly confidential and are shared only with you.
- However, the laboratory and clinics are expected to submit basic non identifier statistical data to MOH in the event of a positive result for most STDs (exceptions include HIV and Hepatitis C)

Yes, you can. However, to avoid long waiting time, we strongly advise you to book your appointments in advance.
You can only cancel or change your appointments up to 24 hours before your appointment. You will receive your refund within 14 working days. No refund will be issued for no shows and cancellations within 24 hours before your appointment. However, if you are feeling unwell on the day of the appointment, we allow patients who have their acute illness seen at Regis Medical to reschedule their appointment without extra cost.

About PrEP & STD Monitoring
No. We focus on monitoring and sexual health screening. If you need a PrEP prescription, we can point you in the right direction, but our role is to make sure you are safe while taking it, not to sell you medication.
You may continue to take your regular medication for chronic diseases (e.g. hypertension, cholesterol) but are to omit your diabetic medication until you have taken your breakfast.
Yes. It does not matter where your medication comes from. What matters is that you are being monitored properly. Many of our patients obtain PrEP from various sources and use Regis Medical for their regular check-ups and screening.
Our monitoring packages include metabolic and organ function blood work, kidney function, liver function, full blood count, lipid panel, HbA1c, bone profile, alongside the STI screening. This is important because PrEP affects your kidneys and bones over time, and these need to be tracked. A standard STD test at most clinics does not include these markers.
The Annual Sexual Health Screen packages include lipid panel and HbA1c, which are more accurate with fasting (8–10 hours, water is fine). The PrEP Monitoring Programme quarterly visits do not require fasting unless your annual blood work is being done at that visit. Our staff will confirm when you book.
Yes. Daily PrEP is effective and recommended for all genders. We offer monitoring for women on PrEP, with the option to include cervical screening and vaginal health testing through our women's packages. Your monitoring schedule will be tailored to your regimen and exposure profile at your initial consultation.
Absolutely. The Annual Sexual Health Screen packages are designed for any sexually active adult who wants a comprehensive check. You do not need to be on PrEP to benefit from thorough sexual health and metabolic screening.
