Common STDs in Singapore

In Singapore, several sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) pose significant health risks, with common infections including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, genital warts, and herpes. These STDs can have varying degrees of severity and may present different challenges for diagnosis and treatment.

It's important to note that while some STDs, like chlamydia and gonorrhoea, may manifest symptoms in some individuals, they can be entirely asymptomatic for the majority of people. This means that individuals may unknowingly carry and transmit these infections without experiencing any noticeable signs or symptoms. As a result, regular testing becomes paramount to detect and treat these infections early, preventing further transmission and potential complications.

Moreover, some STDs, such as syphilis, exhibit different symptoms at different stages of the illness. The initial stage may present with painless sores or ulcers, which can easily go unnoticed or be mistaken for other benign conditions. Without prompt diagnosis and treatment, syphilis can progress to more severe stages, affecting various organs and leading to serious health consequences.
